-
A photo gallery from the January inauguration of President Dr. James P. Loftus

-

Students receive award for paper

The two presented their paper at the organization’s annual student conference.

For about two decades, Cardinal Stritch University’s membership with the non-partisan Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies has connected students with opportunities to explore foreign policy, global areas of conflict, intercultural communication, gender relations, and environmental sustainability. Minnesota site collecting books for Africa

Throughout the 2012 calendar year, each Cardinal Stritch University site in Minnesota will be collecting books to be shipped to Africa to fill the multiple needs of people, schools, and educational programs across the continent.

Since 1988, Books for Africa has shipped more than 24 million books to 46 African countries. They are on once-empty library shelves, in classrooms in rural schools, and in the hands of children who have never before held a book.

Books donated by publishers, schools, libraries, individuals and organizations are sorted and packed by volunteers who carefully choose books that are age- and subject-appropriate. Enough books are sent for a whole class to use.

Learn more here. To help in this effort contact Nicole Lapides (nlapides@stritch.edu).

Stritch, new job help alumna adjust to move from Puerto Rico to Milwaukee

A native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Marta Carrión, M.S. Management, ’10, decided to take a leap of faith in the summer of 2008 when she and her daughter made a permanent move to the United States.

“I was looking for professional growth and wanted to offer my daughter something better,” said Carrión.

At the time, Carrión was working for the American Cancer Society of Puerto Rico and had risen as far as she could in the organization. She was called for a job interview in Milwaukee and, even before knowing whether she got the job, decided it would be her new home. At a large career fair, she was introduced to Stritch, which ultimately helped her build an expansive professional network and grow in her role as director of development for the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast.

“I liked the flexibility of Stritch’s program,” Carrión said. “As someone who was busy raising a daughter, this was a great fit.”
