Reaccreditation affirms Stritch’s quality and future direction
Cardinal Stritch University received its regular reaccreditation evaluation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association in April, and the visit team’s recent report offered high marks to the overall academic quality of Stritch and its future direction.

“This is nearly the best possible outcome to our reaccreditation visit, and it is a testament to the dedication of our entire community,” said Stritch President Dr. James Loftus. “News headlines are increasingly dominated by colleges and universities facing great challenges, and I am so pleased that the HLC visit team has affirmed our work and direction as an institution.”

Stritch celebrates its Minnesota graduates
Graduating students from Cardinal Stritch University’s Minnesota classroom sites received their diplomas June 1 in the Coeur de Catherine Building at St. Catherine University, 2004 Randolph Ave. in St. Paul.

Stritch alumnus James Prom, '99, founder and owner of Invasive Models LLC and a Plymouth, Minn. city council member, served as commencement speaker. Read the text of Prom's speech.

Stritch to participate in Capuchin’s Run/Walk for the Hungry
Cardinal Stritch University is organizing a team to participate in this year’s annual German Fest Capuchin’s Run/Walk for the Hungry, which takes place on Friday, July 25 at 7 p.m.

With your registration, you will receive:
-A commemorative t-shirt
-Free German Fest admission (open until 11 p.m. Friday night)
-$5 food/drink coupon
-2 for 1 coupon to return to German Fest for the other days
-Entry into a drawing eligible for wonderful prizes

The proceeds of this run/walk support St. Ben’s Community Meal and House of Peace, which local Capuchin brothers operate.

Join the Stritch community for Windows on Stritch: a scholarship benefit to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 in the Sister Camille Kliebhan Conference Center. The evening will honor the extraordinary leadership of Sister Camille Kliebhan, OSF, Ph.D., and Sister Mary Lea Schneider, OSF, Ph.D. Additional details to be announced soon.

Dr. Clavon Byrd and Dr. Randa Suleiman, faculty in the School of Education, presented “Recalculating: The Story of edTPA Implementation at Cardinal Stritch University” at the University of Wisconsin-System Educator Teacher Performance Assessment Conference in Wisconsin Dells on May 9. Their presentation focused on how the School of Education initiated edTPA implementation, using the following questions: Where are we now? Where do we want to be in three years? How will we get there successfully?

Dr. Robert Buckla, vice president for University Advancement, received an Alumnus of the Year award from St. Bonaventure University. He accepted the award from his alma mater on June 7 at the university's campus in New York.

Susan Champagne, '98, '01, Chris Lange, '11, Mark Quistorf, '07, and Sara Woelfel received 2013-14 Staff Recognition Awards. The award recipients were nominated by their colleagues for their dedication to demonstrating the Franciscan values in their everyday work.

Only $8,000 left to raise to activate matching funds and meet Challenge goal
With less than 30 days to go, we need your support to help us reach the $50,000 2014 Alumni Challenge goal and activate the $50,000 match by our Challenge team.

Remember, gifts made by alumni to the Stritch Annual Fund or Santa Chiara Fund will be matched, dollar-for-dollar for:

-Alumni who renew a gift made last year
(Aug. 1, 2012-July 31, 2013)
-Alumni who make a first-time gift in 2014
-Alumni who increase their gift to Stritch over their last gift
(match applies to the increased amount)

The Alumni Challenge is part of the University’s overall fund raising goal of $2.35 million. To date, $2.31 million in cash, pledges and strong verbal commitments has been secured toward the goal.

Daniels Named CCAC Athletic Trainer Of The Year
Cardinal Stritch University's April Daniels has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Athletic Trainer of the Year for 2013-14. It is the first such honor for Daniels who has held her post at Stritch since the fall of 2007.

"April is the best athletic trainer I have worked with in over 40 years of being involved in athletics," said Athletic Director Pat Clemens. "She is compassionate, highly knowledgeable, and hard-working. Trainers like her come along once in a great while."

As the head athletic trainer, Daniels is responsible for overseeing the medical coverage of all 18 varsity sports while managing the athletic training department staff, a graduate assistant, and numerous interns.

Raeder Honored At Women's Basketball Hall of Fame
This month the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame located in Knoxville, Tenn. recognized 100 of the nation's best women's basketball players of the 2013-14 season, unveiling the "Ring of Honor" display. Cardinal Stritch University senior women's basketball player Julie Raeder was honored as one of these top 100 players, as her jersey now hangs from the rafters of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

The "Ring of Honor" is a display representing some of the nation's finest basketball players.

Don't miss the 2014 Wolf Pack Open Golf Outing, presented by Total Cleaning Systems. This year's event will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course.

This annual fundraising event supports the Stritch Athletics program, including student scholarships. Golfers can register individually or as a team.

Minnesota alumni gather to welcome new graduates
On Saturday, May 31 alumni joined President Dr. James P. Loftus and Irene Prior Loftus for an afternoon of celebration on the Padelford Riverboat Cruise as Stritch welcomed its newest Minnesota graduates to the Alumni Association.

While cruising down the beautiful Mississippi River, alumni had the opportunity to mingle with recent graduates and special guests including Dean Dr. Peter Holbrook, ’84, ’95, ’08 who gave an update on the College of Business and Management.
We hope to see you at Reunion Weekend!
Alumni are invited to join us as we celebrate the 50th class reunion for the class of 1964 and the 25th class reunion for the class of 1989 this coming weekend, June 20-22.

Alumni Board seeks nominations and applications for Board Directors
The Alumni Association is currently seeking nominations and applications for Alumni Board Director positions. Serving on the Alumni Board is a great way to get involved and re-engaged with the University.

If you are interested in serving on the Alumni Board, please fill out the online application form. If you know of a Stritch graduate who you feel would be a great candidate, please fill out the online nomination form. All nomination and application forms are due by July 31.

Terms for those candidates selected to serve will begin in early 2015, and will serve a two-year term. Directors may serve on the board for two consecutive two-year terms.

Around graduation, it is my belief that every graduate has that moment when they sit and look back on their college experience in its entirety. You first have this feeling of, “Oh my goodness, where did the time go?” Which is somewhat ironic since just a month prior you were telling everyone, “I am SO ready to leave!" Then, you look back at the good, the bad, the noteworthy and the mundane, and you ask the toughest question of all: “Any regrets?”

When Jubilarian Barbara (Mlot) Olson, ʹ64, describes her life, she is quick to count her blessings. Her deepest loves, family and an appreciation for continuous learning, become immediately apparent. Since graduating from Stritch with a degree in English, Olson has lived her love of learning both personally and professionally.

Frank Korb
, M.A. Visual Studies, ‘02 was one of 20 educators nationwide selected to attend the White House Appreciation Social on May 7. The White House social was part of Teacher Appreciation Week and included a visit with lifelong educator Dr. Jill Biden and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Korb is an art teacher at Waterford Union High School in Waterford, Wis.
