Mitchler named vice president of enrollment services

Allan Mitchler, a higher education consultant, administrator and educator with more than 21 years of experience, has been named vice president of Enrollment Services at Cardinal Stritch University. He will start Feb. 17.

As vice president of Enrollment Services, Mitchler will be responsible for providing leadership and direction of the University’s marketing, undergraduate admissions, graduate admissions, financial aid, and registrar offices.

Athletics to add Spirit Squad next fall

Stritch Athletics will add a Spirit Squad next fall, and Amanda Martin (pictured) has been hired as the program’s first head coach.

“With the addition of a Spirit Squad to our department, we believe that we will not only enhance our game day experience, but also afford potential students with another avenue continuing on from the high school level,” said Pat Clemens, director of athletics.

Call for Comments

Cardinal Stritch University is seeking comments from the public about the university in preparation for its periodic evaluation by its regional accrediting agency. The university will host a visit April 7-9, 2014, with a team representing the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. Cardinal Stritch University has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and has been a member of the North Central Association since 1953.

Annual Fund News

Stritch launches the 2014 Alumni Challenge

On Jan. 31 we launched an exciting alumni giving initiative, where alumni have the opportunity to double and even triple their giving to Stritch. Watch our launch video here.

Through the leadership and generosity of five Stritch alumni, gifts from graduates to the Annual Fund or Santa Chiara Fund will be matched, dollar-for-dollar for:

  • Alumni who renew a gift made last year (Aug. 1, 2012-July 31, 2013)
  • Alumni who make a first-time gift in 2014
  • Alumni who increase their gift to Stritch over their last gift (match applies to the increased amount)

Alumni have been challenged to raise $50,000. With the match of our generous donors, alumni have the opportunity to raise $100,000 for Stritch.

You can follow Alumni Challenge progress by visiting the website or on our Alumni Facebook page. We will be posting Challenge updates, trivia and giving away alumni prizes throughout the Challenge on our social media sites.

Sport Management Symposium to be held April 4

The 2014 Sport Management Symposium, sponsored by U.S. Cellular, will be held Friday, April 4 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Sister Camille Kliebhan Conference Center.

This year’s symposium will feature keynote speaker Dr. William Sutton, a distinguished academician and a proven sports marketing practitioner whose consulting clients include the NBA, NHL, and MSG Sports. The event will also include panelists from various sports professions including:

  • Nick Buerger – Recreation Supervisor, City of Greenfield
  • Nathan Jaeckels – Retail Merchandising Assistant, Milwaukee Brewers
  • Courtney King – Sports Anchor/Reporter, Fox 6 News
  • Carl Manteau – Director of Group Sales, Milwaukee Bucks

Local news media feature Wolves

Two local network affiliates recently featured the Wolves men’s basketball team on their nightly newscasts.

TMJ4 sports anchor Lance Allan visited the reigning national champions during practice and FOX 6 Sports anchor Tim Van Vooren also visited Stritch and spoke with the Semenas brothers and Wolves Head Coach Drew Diener about the siblings’ dynamics both on and off the court.

The defending N.A.I.A. Division II National Champion Stritch Wolves are currently ranked first in the division.

Alumni invited to attend Work Force Career Fair Feb. 18

WorkForce, Wisconsin’s Premiere Career and Internship Fair, will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 3-7 p.m. at Wisconsin State Fair Park. More than 1,000 students and alumni from Wisconsin’s 23 private and independent colleges are expected to attend the fair with 150+ top employers who are looking for interns and full-time professional staff.

2014 Basketball Alumni Reunion welcomes back more than 150 alumni

More than 150 alumni and guests participated in this year's reunion activities held on Saturday, Jan. 25. Both the men's and women's alumni games were a hit and our current men's and women's teams showed their strength as Stritch added two more wins this season, defeating Purdue University-Calumet.

A special thank you to David Price, ’07, ’13 and Chris Tinker, ’06, ’10 for their gracious hospitality in sponsoring a gathering at The Three Lions Pub following the afternoon games.

Alumni are invited to participate in the 9th annual Leadership, Learning and Service Retreat at Pieve International School in Corciano, Italy, led by Stritch professor emerita Kris Hipp.

What do Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos and one of the 1964 graduates have in common? Answer: Omaha!

Peyton Manning is well known for shouting “Omaha” when calling football plays but do you know that Joyce (Franke) France is coming from Omaha to our 50th reunion? Joyce will be staying with Pat (Meyer) Buechel (featured in the picture to the left)  who is on the reunion planning committee.

Mark your calendars for June 20-22 and join Joyce and Pat for a great weekend. Reach out to all your former classmates to let them know you will be attending.

The class of 1989 will be celebrating their 25th anniversary as Stritch graduates during Reunion Weekend June 20-22. The kickoff event will be a TGIT reception on Friday, June 20 starting at 6:30 p.m. Join the class of 1989 as well as staff, faculty, and the Sisters as we celebrate the '80s with music, food, drinks, and trivia.

Sister Gabrielle Kowalski earns prestigious designation

The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) has named professor emerita Sister Gabrielle Kowalski, OSF, Ph.D., Fellow of the Association.

The designation of fellow is a prestigious honor, awarded only to those who meet several nomination requirements.

Stritch graduate helping to keep business “better” for Cousins Subs

“Better Bread. Better Subs. Better Day."

This is a slogan Stritch alumnus Justin McCoy, ’01, knows all too well as the vice president of marketing for Cousins Subs. He is charged with overseeing and building the iconic brand of this hometown sandwich shop, which was founded in 1972 by two cousins in Milwaukee.
