Hi MBU Alumni!

Summer is winding down and the leaves will start turning colors soon.  Are you ready for fall?

We are compiling information for the next MBU Magazine.  Have you switched jobs recently?  Expanded your family?  Tell us about it!  Do you want to know how your former classmates spent their summers?  We will include your vacation photos from last summer in the next magazine.  Send your vacation photo to BlackJM@mobap.edu, along with a brief description.  Deadline for all submissions is Monday, October 3.

I sometimes get asked what the Peloponnesian is and why it is the name of the newsletter.  For more information and to view previous e-newsletters, GO HERE.

The First Generation Project

Help us Grow St. Louis. Missouri Baptist University is competing for a $15,000 grant from Monsanto to help first-generation MBU students claim their dream of a college degree.  Nationwide, first generation college students face unique challenges—from financial strains to, at times, a lack of support. Despite these obstacles, MBU is determined to see its first generation students not only receive a diploma, but also become servant leaders in St. Louis and beyond.

To help MBU win $15,000 in scholarships for first-generation college students, go to www.stlgrown.com every day from Sept. 26 – Oct. 16 and vote for our cause (type "Missouri Baptist" in the Quick Search box to find us). In the mean time, get to know MBU students and alumni who have claimed their dream.  The site has experienced technical difficulties, so if you run into any problems, try again later in the day.

Get AMP'd

Campus Minister, Jonathan White, has launched a new group called AMP (A Mighty Passion).  AMP is a God-glorifying community of followers of Christ coming together to be actively on mission and see lives changed for Jesus Christ.  Jonathan (or J.White as the students call him) has booked a full schedule of events to support students in their spiritual lives.  Alumni can be a part of this ministry in several ways:

  • Sponsor an Exist to Exit session (Tuesday nights in Recital Hall) - Churches can sponsor a session by providing snacks for 40 students and/or speaking to the students.
  • Participate in a dodgeball tournament on 11/11/11 to raise money for mission trips
  • Attend the Prayer Walk (date to be decided) - Groups of students, faculty, staff and alumni come together to pray over different areas of campus.
  • Provide snacks for student retreats and care packages for dorm students
  • Donations to help pay for mission trips to Haiti and Africa
  • Lead a small group on campus

For more information about how you can be involved in campus ministry, contact Jonathan at whitej@mobap.edu.

Anything else you want to share: The best advice I could offer someone interested in a career in Sports would be to intern and network as much as you can.
