They're Back... Campus is now bustling with activity with the start of school. Incoming students enjoyed a weekend full of group competitions, cookouts, concerts, local outings, and fellowship. The Alumni Association sponsored an annual event called Death by Chocolate. Students came inside from a long, hot day and inhaled chocolate treats before attending a concert. Meanwhile, some upperclassmen were lucky enough to move into the new Spartan Village apartments. Do you remember your Welcome Weekend? Classes began Monday. We wish all of the students a successful, fun year! The next big campus event is Homecoming. One of the kickoff events is The Perk: the Event, an event with a coffee shop atmosphere, delicious desserts, entertainment by members of the MBU community, photo booth and a complimentary coffee mug for attendees. Alumni are encouraged to audition to showcase their musical talents at the event. Look for audition information to be released in September. Did you miss the last alumni event? A couple weeks ago about 30 alumni and friends went to the Muny for a backstage tour, cookout, and showing of Bye Bye Birdie. The weather cooperated and many left with "We love you Conrad, oh yes we do..." running through their heads. Are you proud to be an MBU alumnus? Show your MBU pride with an Alumni Association car decal. Send your name and address to alumni@mobap.edu and we'll mail you a free car decal. Alumnus Beau Bekemeier '03 Wins The Voice Online Contest
Beau heard about the auditions from a television commercial. His wife and a good friend encouraged him to audition. He was selected to be in the top 5 and then voted the winner. Beau will fly out to L.A. next week. He will need to make it through two more auditions before being on the show. He will find out in late September/early October if he made it. See his performance in the KSDK studio HERE. Beau was also interviewed by local Christian radio station, Joy FM. Listen to the clip HERE. Beau is currently Video Director/Assistant Worship Pastor at Calvary Church in St. Peters, Mo. He is married with three children. Good luck Beau! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Alumni Spotlight: Julie Gordon, MBA '09
Why she chose to attend MBU: I looked at MBU because of its location to my home and work; and the price was a better value for me than other schools in the area. I also like the fact that MBU is a university that stands on Christian principles (I did my undergrad at Oklahoma Christian University). Favorite MBU Professor: Adjunct Instructor Patti Smoot challenged us to apply concepts from class to actual situations and put them into practice. Favorite Memory: Connecting with my professors and a few classmates. The staff at the Franklin County extension center made the enrollment process easy and they were supportive throughout my degree program. Occupation: Project Accounting, Senior Manager at Maritz and Adjunct Instructor at MBU Franklin County Extension Hobbies: Scrapbooking, touring on our motorcycle with my husband, spending time with our children and grandchildren Family: Husband, Tim; Daughters and husbands: Amber & Matt Bartel, Amanda & Nick O’Neal; Grandchildren: Connor and Taylor Bartel and Maxwell O’Neal |
