Elizabeth Perten
Musicology, Ph.D.
Current Post: DAAD Research Grant, Germany

"While visiting the Goethe-Schiller Archive in Weimar, I've had the singular opportunity to handle original letters between nineteenth century composer Franz Liszt and so many central artistic figures of the time, such as Mendelssohn and Victor Hugo. Examining the wax seal of the envelope, the decorations on the stationary and (struggling with) the handwriting, in addition to my excitement over the content of the prose, have all been unexpected highlights of my archival experience. These are certainly elements of research that cannot be replicated in a printed text."
